With several starters lost to graduation, including the program's all-time wins leader Chris Zak, Coach Eddy's Jackson Liberty lineup will be young, but not short on talent.
The part of the lineup that stands out is the stretch of returners from 145-170. Seniors Brandon Roman and Brandon Kosheff, junior Nick Zak, and sophomore TJ Liquori combined for 86 wins last season and could very well top 100 between the four of them this year.
The first three weights should be occupied by a trio of promising freshmen in Dominick Regina and Matt and Mike Russo. Junior Jon Scialabba has reached double digit wins in each of his first two seasons and should be ready to cross the 20+ plateau this year.
Liberty is one of the team's that could be affected by the changing of the weight classes as they will be breaking in new starters in each of the final five weights. The talent and work ethic is there though and this group should improve a great deal as the season progresses.
Even with as many as eight new starters in the lineup, Liberty expects (and should) improve on last season's sub .500 season, their first losing season since 2008. The middle of the lineup is very solid and will hold the fort down early while the frosh down low and newcomers up top get experience. This is a team that should really get rolling as the season moves on, but a key divisional showdown with Wall comes perhaps a little sooner than they would like (December 21st). Still, if the new faces are ahead of pace and they can win that one, you have to like their chances at winning their first divisional title.
Wrestler To Watch - (Jr) Nick Zak
Zak finished just one win shy of a medal at the NJSIAA Championships. He's a heavy favorite to make a return trip to Boardwalk Hall in 2012, and has an outstanding chance at becoming the first State placer in the program's young history.
