2/20: Chris Zak Wins Title; Liberty Finishes 6th @ Districts
Chris Zak became the 2nd wrestler in school history to win a District Title on Saturday by defeating Freehold Township's Ken Brophy, 8-6, in the 135-pound final of the District 21 Wrestling Tournament at Manalapan High School.
With the win, Zak receives a bye into Friday night's Region 6 quarterfinals where he will be making his 3rd appearance.
Also making his 3rd appearance at Regions will be senior heavyweight Brendan Kahle, while junior Joe Bartolini makes his first appearance in the 140-pound weight class.
Kahle, who was Liberty's first District champ, and Bartolini will be in action on Tuesday night for the opening round of the Region Tournament. Kahle is schedule to face Middletown South's Dylan Zimmerman, while Bartolini is slated to wrestle against Ryan Riegert of Manchester.

2009 was the biggest year yet for the young Jackson Liberty program. With nine double digit winners from last year's 15 win team, the Lions will be looking for even more in 2010.
The bottom half of lineup is anchored by returning District runner-up Chris Zak at 135. He's joined by double digit winners Billy Anderson and Andrew Mannikus, both seniors, junior Joe Bartolini, and sophomore Brandon Kosheff. Several newcomers will help round out the lowerweights including freshmen Nick Zak and Jon Scialabba.
Up top, the program's first ever District champion, Brendan Kahle, returns and gives Liberty one of the top heavies in the Shore. Seniors Ryan Cucchiara and Rob Schueler, and junior Rob Hennings give the Lions a strong stretch for 145-160.

2/27: Season Ends For Liberty
Trio At Regions
Senior Brendan Kahle and juniors Chris Zak and Joe Bartolini had their seasons ended on Saturday at the Region 6 Tournament.
Zak became the first wrestler in Jackson Liberty's short history to win a Region medal with his 4th place performance in the 135-pound weight class. With only top 3 advancing to the NJSIAA Championships though, he wound up one win shiy of the trip to Boardwalk Hall.
Bartolini and Kahle both finished in the Top 6 in their respective weight classes with each bowing out in the wrestleback semifnals just one win short of reaching the podium and two wins shy of advancing to the NJSIAA Tournament.

2/20: Chris Zak Wins Title; Liberty Finishes 6th @ Districts
Chris Zak became the 2nd wrestler in school history to win a District Title on Saturday by defeating Freehold Township's Ken Brophy, 8-6, in the 135-pound final of the District 21 Wrestling Tournament at Manalapan High School.
With the win, Zak receives a bye into Friday night's Region 6 quarterfinals where he will be making his 3rd appearance.
Also making his 3rd appearance at Regions will be senior heavyweight Brendan Kahle, while junior Joe Bartolini makes his first appearance in the 140-pound weight class.
Kahle, who was Liberty's first District champ, and Bartolini will be in action on Tuesday night for the opening round of the Region Tournament. Kahle is schedule to face Middletown South's Dylan Zimmerman, while Bartolini is slated to wrestle against Ryan Riegert of Manchester.

2009 was the biggest year yet for the young Jackson Liberty program. With nine double digit winners from last year's 15 win team, the Lions will be looking for even more in 2010.
The bottom half of lineup is anchored by returning District runner-up Chris Zak at 135. He's joined by double digit winners Billy Anderson and Andrew Mannikus, both seniors, junior Joe Bartolini, and sophomore Brandon Kosheff. Several newcomers will help round out the lowerweights including freshmen Nick Zak and Jon Scialabba.
Up top, the program's first ever District champion, Brendan Kahle, returns and gives Liberty one of the top heavies in the Shore. Seniors Ryan Cucchiara and Rob Schueler, and junior Rob Hennings give the Lions a strong stretch for 145-160.

Zak had a strong sophomore campaign recording 29 wins with 19 of them coming by fall. With some of the wrestlers that were ahead of him last season having graduated, he should be a strong contender for a Region medal and a trip to AC in 2010.

The Lions have wasted little time in moving up the ranks in the Shore Conference and appear, on paper, as if they will be fielding their strongest lineup to date. There's over a half dozen wrestlers here that should hit the 20+ win mark and a few that can make some serious noise at Regions. From a team standpoint, the Lions will be in the hunt for the B-South title and also for a spot in the Sectional final as the Section is pretty wide open beyond South Plainfield.
