The Lions took an enormous hit to graduation, with last year's seniors combining for 183 wins in 2016. As a result, this will be a young lineup, but not one void of experience and potential.
The returning wins leader is junior Josh Bollard, who projects to be at 113. A 20-bout winner last season at 106, Bollard will be looking to take the next step in 2017. He'll provide veteran leadership down low along with senior Jair Hatch, who is 100% this season after wrestling through an injury a year ago, and will be looking to make noise this year. Down at 106, expect to see the Lions get time for the trio of sophomore Julio Aparicio, who saw time wrestling up at 113 last year, and promising freshmen Romeo Willis and Dorian Hall.
The majority of experience returning for Liberty lies in the stretch from 132-160 where four starters return including Shaun Plaza and Marc Palmieri, who are both coming off nice sophomore seasons that saw them win 15 and 18 bouts respectively.
From 170-up, junior Chavis Coleman is the lone returning starter and will be looked to provide some leadership and stability as several underclassmen are expected to enter the lineup, including a trio of sophomores in Jordan Grimes, Nelson Hallenback, and Jon Cetin, along with a frosh at heavyweight in Anthony Fitzgerald.
With all the losses to graduation, the Lions will have a lot of new faces. There's only a handful of seniors here, so while you can already chalk this year up to getting next year's team ready for bigger things, there will be still be a focus on remaining a competitive team and getting their wins in 2017, and a heavy eye on improving as the season rolls on.
