2020 Season Preview

Head Coach: Mike Eddy (15th Season / Record: 161-126)

2019 Overall Record:  9-13  /  Shore Conference:  6-12  /  B-South:  4-3
Sectionals: Did Not Qualify
4th Place District 24
Tied 3rd Place B-South
28th Place Shore Conference Tournament

Down Low (106-132): Liberty has a strong pair of veteran anchors down low in seniors, Dorian Hall and Romeo Willis-Parreott. Both are coming off 23 win seasons, and both medaled at Districts, with Willis-Parreott going on to finish in 6th place. The duo is more than capable of 30+ seasons, to go along with strong post-season runs, that would give Liberty a terrific 1-2 punch in the middle of a group that will feature a lot of underclassmen. Among those underclassmen are sophomore Matt Castro, a returning starter, and some promising freshmen from the Jackson feeder program including Ryan Kinsman, Peter Abline, Tae Shin, and Zack Corrado.

In The Middle (138-160): Four starters return for Liberty, giving them strong experience in the middle. Junior Jon Recio is back at 145 after winning 23 matches and placing 2nd in the District at this weight a season ago. He could be in for a big year back at this weight this season. Two more juniors who started last year are back as well in Devin Mark and Steven Schmitz. Schmitz is down a weight class from a year ago and could also be primed for a big season. Ian Boyce is the other returning starter and can provide senior leadership for the group, while junior Sergio Costa, who saw some action last year, and freshman Mac Bandelt provide depth and maneuvering options.

Up Top (170-Hwt): Senior Jaden Lowe missed the first few weeks of last season after transferring back to Liberty. Still, he posted 19 wins, and went on to win the D24 Title. With a full year in the lineup, expect huge things out of Lowe. Seniors Massimo Bottino and junior Mason Kruse are two more returning starters, and again provide Liberty with some good experience as even more underclassmn crack the lineup, including sophomores Sean Marrow and Mike Villante, and freshmen Jake Klein, Chimdindu Molokwa, and Mike Justo-Bontista.

Mike Eddy has been the head coach at Liberty since day one, and has the highest numbers in the room the program has ever had. That is good news in itself, but among those numbers are proven talent, and a large number of promising newcomers coming in from last season's 14-2 Intermediate School team. All said, there is a good balance to the lineup and some great depth, which makes Liberty a team on the rise to watch. They've got a pretty interesting schedule early on with teams like Manalapan, Pt Beach, and rising Marlboro, and then things get real interesting for them in the 2nd half of January with divisional foes Lacey and Pt Boro.
